Best crypto wallets for Solana in 2026: hot, hardware and multisig

Prices checked 1 November 2026 · 7 tools compared · MemeSonar research
Short answer

Use two wallets: a hot wallet for trading (Phantom, Solflare or Backpack, all free) and cold storage for what you keep (a hardware wallet from about $50: Trezor Safe 3, Tangem cards, Ledger Nano). Shared or larger funds belong in a multisig like Squads, where several people must approve every transfer.

A crypto wallet does not hold coins; it holds the key that controls them. Whoever has the key (or the 12/24-word recovery phrase) owns the money. That makes storage a simple question: how many places can your key leak from? A browser wallet is convenient but online; a hardware wallet keeps the key on a device that never touches the internet.

Shared and treasury funds (multisig) · Solana

  • M-of-N approvals
  • Works with hardware wallets as members
  • Spending limits
  • Audited
FreeProtocol is free to usePaid0.1 SOL deployment fee, 0.25% on limit orders, optional Business plan $49/mo

Watch out: Every approval is a Solana transaction, so network fees are a bit higher than a normal wallet.

How to choose

  1. Never type your recovery phrase into a website, bot or chat. No real support team will ask for it. MemeSonar never asks for it either.
  2. Split hot and cold. Keep a trading amount in Phantom or Solflare; move the rest to a hardware wallet.
  3. Connect hardware to your hot app. Phantom, Solflare and Backpack can use a Ledger as signer, so you keep the app and get cold keys.
  4. Shared money needs a multisig. For a club, team or project treasury, Squads requires e.g. 2 of 3 members to approve.
  5. Swap fees differ. Phantom charges 0.85% on in-app swaps; swapping via Jupiter is cheaper.

FAQ

What is the best wallet for Solana?

Phantom for ease of use, Solflare for Solana-focused features and hardware support, Backpack if you also use its exchange. All three are free.

Do I need a hardware wallet?

If you hold more than you would be fine losing, yes. A Trezor Safe 3 ($50) or Tangem 2-card set ($54.90) protects you from most hacks that empty browser wallets.

Does Ledger support Solana?

Yes. Install the Solana app on the device and connect it to Phantom, Solflare or Ledger Live.

What is a multisig wallet?

A wallet that needs several approvals for each transaction, e.g. 2 of 3 people. On Solana the standard is Squads; it charges a one-time deployment fee and Solana network fees.

MemeSonar puts wallet tracking, influencer calls and a rug check on every new Solana token in one app. Invite only.
